NMAD351 - Digital Dome Production I (3 credits)

Get in on the cutting-edge of this new technology while learning how to use the DigitalSky software, create panorama and fisheye images, and learn the history, present, and future of the digital dome. This course requires a willingness to experiment, research, take risk and break new ground. From the basics of how to place a still image on the dome to exploring and experimenting with storytelling, installation, and art. Students can work with the dome in various positions utilizing its unique ability to articulate. A public showing of work is required as part of the final project.

Colloquia: Creating for the Dome (1 credit)

Learn how your art can be showcased on the new digital dome. In this colloquia we will look at various examples of previously created content for the dome to include: computer generated moving images, gigapixel still images, panoramas, and a painting come to life. Students will experiment with placing their work on the dome and creating hemispheric images to utilize the dome's shape.
NMAD418 - Future Trends in New Media (3 credits)

This course will look at future trends in new media exploring the latest techniques for web development and other forms of new media. Students will explore software and hardware and attempt to predict trends and future solutions for delivery and content creation.
NMAD112 - Introduction to Digital Media (3 credits)

NMAD112 teaches many of the fundamental skills of understanding and working
with digital media with the Macintosh computer platform. Through the iLife '09 and iWork '09 software suite, we will introduce students to the "Mac" and the various ways in which we manipulate and repurpose still and moving images, sound and text.
NMAD112 is designed to give students a firm grounding in the tools, techniques,
and thinking behind digital media and will include (but not limited to) the use of
digital cameras, audio recording devices, scanners in the creation of various media.
Additionally, there is a underlying theme of self-expression throughout this class for the purpose of exploring these tools in the context of artistic and academic success.
FILM131 - Digital Video Editing I (3 credits)

Students learn the basic concepts of video editing, including planning and executing a small video project. Students explore the aesthetics and technical aspects of digital video editing using Appleās Final Cut Pro software. Topics include log and capture software capabilities, hardware, critiquing process and media management.

Moving Images is an introduction to making movies using digital video. This course will provide an overview of genres, script writing and story boarding, shooting (cinematography, lighting, sound), capturing, editing (video and audio), and compression. This course is designed to help students decide what aspect of movie making they would like to focus on. Each student will walk away with a three to five minute completed video.
