NMAD112 - Introduction to Digital Media (3 credits)

NMAD112 teaches many of the fundamental skills of understanding and working
with digital media with the Macintosh computer platform. Through the iLife '09 and iWork '09 software suite, we will introduce students to the "Mac" and the various ways in which we manipulate and repurpose still and moving images, sound and text.
NMAD112 is designed to give students a firm grounding in the tools, techniques,
and thinking behind digital media and will include (but not limited to) the use of
digital cameras, audio recording devices, scanners in the creation of various media.
Additionally, there is a underlying theme of self-expression throughout this class for the purpose of exploring these tools in the context of artistic and academic success.

FILM131 - Digital Video Editing I (3 credits)

Students learn the basic concepts of video editing, including planning and executing a small video project. Students explore the aesthetics and technical aspects of digital video editing using Apple’s Final Cut Pro software. Topics include log and capture software capabilities, hardware, critiquing process and media management.

An introductory course in visual literacy for both two-dimensional and three-dimensional visual arts, including the concepts of unity, emphasis, balance, scales, rhythm, line texture, space, motion and color. This class allows students to apply the software, hardware, editing, troubleshooting, and aesthetic skills acquired in Digital Video Editing I to create broadcast-quality, independent video projects.

Video Production Summer Residential Workshop

This two-week hands-on video residential workshop for high school students entering the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. Students will learn: scripting and storyboarding, shooting video, recording audio, and editing and post production.

VISC210 Moving Images I (3 credits)

Moving Images is an introduction to making movies using digital video. This course will provide an overview of genres, script writing and story boarding, shooting (cinematography, lighting, sound), capturing, editing (video and audio), and compression. This course is designed to help students decide what aspect of movie making they would like to focus on. Each student will walk away with a three to five minute completed video.
