Week 1 - January 18
Introductions
Syllabus Review and What's Expected
Lecture: What is New Media (part I) and Overview of cutting-edge new media today?
Any other Field Trips do People want to do?
Homework:
-What is New Media? by Lev Manovich (27 pages)
-A Question for You, What's "New" About New Media? (2 pages)
-Databank of early computer art (look over)
-Create a Facebook account, StumbleUpon, and Delicious account, if you dont already have these.
-One post on the New Media Arts at the Institute of American Indian Arts Facebook page.
-Bring in at least 3 examples of New Media Art for discussion.

Week 2 - January 25
Lecture and Discussion: What is New Media (Part II)
Look at students' New Media Examples
Homework:
Read Wikipedia page: New Media
Check out iPods from Mats in Equipment Room
Set up itunes account
set up wifi in ipod
Bring ipod to every class (students are responsible for the iPod for the entire semester)
History of Cell Phone Design
How to Find Anything Online (research tips)
Bring in at least three example of using portable media for art next week.
Post at least one of these examples on New Media Arts Facebook Page.

Week 3 - February 1

In Lab Research Day and Individual Meetings - be ready to discuss your project in detail and answer questions.
Homework:Research the ArtsLab and come up with 5 questions.
Review Native New Media Artists - be prepared to discuss
work on midterm project
Post at least one related item on Facebook

Week 7 - March 1
Discuss Native New Media art
Lecture and Discussion: Internet and Social Networking (why use it, whats changing, privacy issues, what might the future on the Internet look like?)

Week 8 -midterms - March 8
Presentations: Proposals and turn in outline and one page proposals
Homework over Spring Break: At least 10 cutting-edge artists, thinkers, and designers and/or projects related to your topic for next class
Research info on the Santa Fe Complex and come up with intelligent 5 questions.
